Been working on this for a minute. Finally got it to a semi-viewable state. LWCAD has proven itself to be invaluable. I’m finding it hard to believe I did architectural modeling without it. Lots of detail to go for both modeling and texturing.

I’ve begun working on this bridge. LWCAD has helped immensely with the process so far. It’s just beginning but already off to a good start.

July Update

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Here’s a quick update on where I’m at. Still making progress, it seems slow going, but there’s a lot to do. As always, more to come!

Southbank from Above

Baptist Medical Center 2

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

A small update on the Baptist Medical Center.

I’m constantly evaluating how much detail to add and whether said detail needs to be modeled or textured.  Probably the best I can come up with is to have LOD versions of each model. Then, when everything is done I can make downtown Jacksonville into a WiC map. That would be some fun!

To change things up for myself I’m looking at working more on the Northbank soon. It starts to become a bit tedious when you work on the same model for days and days. I have a good portion of what I need for reference photos on the Northbank. I still need to get more references toward the Alltel Stadium.

As always, I hope you’ve enjoyed and more to come.

Baptist Medical Center

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Finally getting the initial plans ready for importing into Lightwave, the Baptist Medical Center enters Jacksonville 3D. This is the last area of major buildings to prep for the Southbank. I purposely saved this for “last” because it wasn’t something I really looked forward to, but of course, only facing it makes it go away. One good thing about saving it for later has been I’ve more or less perfected my production flow with the tools I have.

One thing I have looked forward to, even before beginning this project, was creating the bridge that run above I-95. More to come!

March Update – St. Elmo W. Acosta Bridge

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Getting back into the project after a rest. I’ve begun building the Acosta Bridge. This has been not quite an easy task, as trying to figure out it’s dimensions is pretty much guess work. I’ll have  to use other structures as references to help. It’s also interesting to fit the JTA Skyway down the middle.

Small Update (March)

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

After taking a break for a bit I’m winding back up into the swing of things. Some of the placements for the buildings are a bit off, but that will get fixed as I get the roads in. Stay tuned…

Prudential Plaza – Screen shot

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Here’s a screen shot of the model so far. I might need to take a few more reference shots to get the base of the building correct. But overall the blocking is there.

I measured the plan to scale before extruding, and measured out the glazing which has helped me determine where to remove glazing for the shape of the actual building. While fun to model I will be glad when I can look back on this one.

The Peninsula

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Finally got the height and the garage figured out for The Peninsula. I still have several details to add to it but at least this massive structure is no longer floating along the Southbank.

September Update

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Work continues, as well as progress. I haven’t posted much this month since much of what I’ve been doing won’t be that noticeable.

Main points of interest:

  • Detail added to Main Street Bridge
  • Began Tracks for JTA Skyway
  • Began extending Main Street on land

I’ve also taken over 1200 photos comprising of 56 structures downtown. I still need much more information, but this is what’s gotten me started.
