Prudential Plaza – Screen shot

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Here’s a screen shot of the model so far. I might need to take a few more reference shots to get the base of the building correct. But overall the blocking is there.

I measured the plan to scale before extruding, and measured out the glazing which has helped me determine where to remove glazing for the shape of the actual building. While fun to model I will be glad when I can look back on this one.

Prudential Plaza update

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I finally completed the plan for Prudential Plaza and have begun modeling it. This building is quite a task. The original Prudential building, now owned by Aenta, isn’t much better. I’m still working on the plan for that structure and hope to have it completed, along with all major structures on the Southbank by year’s end.

As work progresses on the Southbank I’ve been photographing structures on the Northbank as well. I’m up to around 1,600 photos total now. Once the Southbank is completed I will be able to immediately begin modeling work on the Northbank because I already have the needed references.

The Past Through Postcards

Got a few more postcards. These images from 1902-1930’s are really helping me to build an image of what downtown looked like back then. Not all of these are postmarked, and most do not have copyright dates, so there’s some difficulty deciphering exactly what year each image represents.

Historic Research

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I haven’t given up, nor have I gotten discouraged, just busy.

When I can’t actively model though, I am constantly researching and gathering information for the project. An example is the ever-growing database of photographs I’m continually taking on my walks downtown. I’m up to around 1,600 or so. Another example is the collection of old Jacksonville postcards that I’ve begun. I’m looking for postcards in from 1900-1940’s. Take a look at my current collection.
